The scientific journal Archives of Endocrinology and Metabolism (AE&M), published by the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (SBEM), has achieved another important milestone in its history: the increase of its Impact Factor (IF) from 1.6 to 2.3.

The IF is one of the main international indicators of relevance and influence of scientific publications. The improvement of this index consolidates the editorial and strategic efforts carried out in recent years.

According to the editor-in-chief of the journal, Dr. César Boguszewski, the recently released numbers are in line with the goals set at the beginning of his term. “When I took over, I set a goal to reach an IF of 3.0. Of course, this takes time, but the result announced now shows we are on the right path and with real chances of reaching that goal,” he stated.

Dr. Boguszewski explains that the Impact Factor measures the average number of citations that articles published in a journal receive over time. “The higher the number, the greater the visibility and influence of the publication within the scientific community. This indicator reflects not only editorial quality but also the scientific contribution of the authors and the strategy for disseminating content,” he emphasized.

To drive this growth, the AE&M editorial board has adopted several measures. Among them: reducing the manuscript review time, applying stricter evaluation criteria for original articles, and inviting renowned authors to write review articles. “These are key decisions with high citation potential and, therefore, direct impact on the journal’s IF,” the editor-in-chief detailed.

In addition to editorial care, author engagement has also been essential in this process. “One of the most relevant actions in this regard will be the publication, still in 2025, of a special issue featuring Invited Reviews, written by both national and international authors. The aim is to explore current topics, controversies, and future perspectives in Endocrinology and Metabolism, thereby expanding the reach and relevance of the content.”

Another point highlighted by Dr. Boguszewski was the dissemination strategy. “The journal has invested in bimonthly email marketing to promote new articles and in actions on SBEM’s social media channels, bringing the journal closer to readers and researchers.” He adds that during the 2025 CBAEM (Brazilian Congress of Updates in Endocrinology and Metabolism), there will be specific activities designed to highlight content published in AE&M. The Congress will take place in Gramado, from September 3 to 6.

With these integrated initiatives, AE&M, through its Editorial Committee, reaffirms its commitment to scientific excellence and to expanding knowledge in Endocrinology and Metabolism, strengthening its role among leading international publications in the field.
